You Need A Firestarter

Having a fire starter in your bug-out bag is a must, if your evacuation plan during a disaster is to camp outdoors. Bugging out in the outdoors will require you to start fires for cooking or to keep warm, etc.

While most people will have a lighter with them, lighters can break or run out of fuel. During times like these having a fire starter will be crucial. Even expert survivalists rely on flint and fire scrapers to start fires. Trying to start one from scratch is tiring and can be next to impossible if you’re not extremely proficient at the task.

If you’ve watched the reality show, Survivor, you’d know that starting a fire is probably one of the most difficult tasks for the contestants. Like host, Jeff Probst likes to say, “Fire represents life.” Despite the cheesiness, it’s very true.

Affordable Fire Starter

The Spark Magnesium Survival Fire Starter that’s manufactured by Survival Spark is a bestselling item with a high rating on Amazon, and currently has over a thousand customer reviews which are mostly positive.

The magnesium fire starter stick allows up to 15,000 strikes. It comes with a scraper to make it easier to start the fire.

This fire starter is a little versatile because it’s also a whistle and a compass. While these are interesting features, if you plan on using a whistle for self-defense or to attract attention, you’re doing it wrong. You’re better off with an emergency alarm that’s much louder and easier to use.

The compass is not one that you can count on either. You’re better off with the A2S Protection Paracord Bracelet which not only is strong paracord but has a highly good compass built in. Of course it’s always good to have a high quality dedicated compass as well.

You may be wondering, “What good is this fire starter then?”

It’s EXCELLENT for starting a fire. That’s its strength and that’s all you need it for. The fire starter is weather resistant and windproof. It’ll make the whole process fast and easy. Starting a fire will be a breeze… pun fully intended.

The item is compact at about 5.5 inches and fit into any bug-out bag or survival kit. The fire stick has a lanyard that you can easily attach to your belt or bag. Very convenient.

Using this fire stick is really easy. This is how you do it – First you need to use the serrated scraper to shave a small amount of magnesium from the rod over your tinder. You should have enough scrapings to cover the size of a US quarter. That will be sufficient.

Next, you’ll slant the fire stick at an angle and slide the striker across it. You’ll notice sparks flying. The goal is for some of the spark to ignite the scrapings on the tinder. Once the scrapings catch fire, the fire will feed off the tinder which is the fuel and the flames will burn bright. Most people who bought the Spark Magnesium Survival Fire Starter were able to get a fire started within 5 minutes.

It’s best to practice with it when you buy one. This will give you experience and you’ll be able to start a fire within minutes without wondering what to do. Always practice during times of peace. Once disaster strikes, the time to prepare has passed.

Make this fire starter a part of your survival supplies. It will be extremely useful when you need a fire and you’ll never be caught in the cold.
