This isn’t about profiling or jumping to conclusions—it’s about maintaining a heightened awareness of your surroundings. We’re looking for situations that deviate from the norm. So, ponder this: what might seem out of place in your church environment? Here are some key indicators to consider:
- Unusual Appearance
- Inappropriate clothing for the setting
- Concealing style garments
- Military attire or anti-religious symbolism
- Unusual Behaviors
- Loitering near entrances and exits for extended periods
- Repeatedly circling the building
- Engaging in unusual or suspicious conversations
- Unusual Emotions
- Excessive anger or nervousness
- A complete lack of visible emotion in situations where it would be expected
- Large, aggressive groups congregating unusually near entrances or exits
These indicators aren’t meant to accuse anyone. Instead, they serve as cues for us to observe, document, and assess.

In more serious scenarios, do not hesitate to contact law enforcement. Utilize emergency services like 911 if you believe it is necessary.
